Sigler Square Letter to the Editor
Sigler Square
Letter to the Editor,
We would like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone for the overwhelming support as we prepare to open our facility. It shows that you all have immense faith in us and our ability to complete this project. We are dedicated to reopening our long term care facility and residential care facility and look forward to providing compassionate, quality care. Many items on our list are completed or are in-the-works.
• We have a new roof and that work was completed by Show-Me Coatings located in Kirksville, Missouri. This was our first major project coming in under budget at $316,000 and it is complete.
• Our facility is subject to regulations regarding ADA compliance; 50% of our bathrooms need to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards. Currently, 0% of our bathrooms meet this standard as it was not a requirement until 2016. Many of our resident rooms will need to be reconfigured to complete this construction.
• We also need new HVAC (heating and cooling) in half of the building. The other portion of the building has newer HVAC but some of those units will need to be relocated due to the reconfiguration of the rooms. We have a highly qualified team that is working with DHSS for approval.
• While we are waiting for DHSS approval of renovation plans, we continue to work on various projects that do not require approval from the State. We have updated the paint throughout the halls that will not be affected during construction. The main dining room has received a new coat of paint. The laundry room is updated with new flooring and the machines have been serviced and are ready to operate with the required detergents.
• Planting trees on Earth Day and spring landscape clean-up are our most recent outdoor activities.
• We work closely with Scotland County Hospital’s IT department as we update computer and phone services.
• Updating policies, procedures, safety plans, etc. along with inventory lists are necessary projects that we are tasked with prior to reopening.
• Sigler Square currently employs 3 full-time employees and 4 part-time employees to share the work to be done; not to mention all of the community volunteers.
When you have any questions, comments, or concerns, you may reach our office at 660-465-7221. Our original phone number is being restored to us by NEMR and our email address is [email protected].
Thank you for your continued support,
Scotland County Nursing Home District Board of Directors and Stephanie Ketchum, Administrator
