GORIN, Mo. — The Gorin Volunteer Fire Department recently placed three new pieces of equipment into service to strengthen its emergency response capabilities.
In April, the department added a 2003 Ford F-550 fire truck equipped with a 1,250-gallon-per-minute pump and a 300-gallon water tank.
In June, the department also received two new rescue tools through the Missouri Volunteer Fire Department Grant (VFDG) program. The equipment includes a battery-powered hydraulic ram and a vehicle stabilization strut kit.
The hydraulic ram is used during vehicle extrications to help free occupants trapped by crushed dashboards or other wreckage. It can also be used to force entry into structures during rescue operations. The tool cost approximately $13,375.
The strut kit, valued at approximately $3,100, is used to stabilize overturned or otherwise unstable vehicles, allowing rescue personnel to work more safely during extrication efforts.
The department received a $15,000 Missouri Volunteer Fire Department Grant to purchase the rescue equipment. The department provided the required 5% local match
