Scotland County Honored For Zero Traffic Fatalities In 2025
MEMPHIS — Scotland County was recognized Wednesday during the Scotland County Commission meeting at the Scotland County Courthouse for recording zero traffic fatalities in 2025, a milestone reached by only six counties statewide.
MoDOT engineer Paula Gough presented the recognition and told commissioners that four of those six counties are located in northeast Missouri. Scotland County joined Lewis, Knox and Shelby counties in the region in posting zero traffic deaths during the year.
Gough said the accomplishment reflects the work of many people and agencies, including local law enforcement, emergency responders, transportation officials and community safety partners. She also pointed to the role of the Northeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission in helping support traffic safety efforts across the region.
While the recognition marked a positive achievement for Scotland County, Gough emphasized that traffic safety remains an ongoing effort. She said the goal is to continue encouraging safe driving habits and community awareness so the county can maintain that record moving forward.
The recognition highlighted Scotland County’s place among a small group of Missouri counties that avoided a traffic fatality in 2025 and underscored northeast Missouri’s strong showing in that statewide total.
