Scotland County Girls Overtake Lady Eagles

Knox County got off to a good start in their first round girls’ matchup with conference rival Scotland County at the 38th Annual North Shelby Varsity basketball tournament. The Lady Eagles (5-9) scored the first eight points. Scotland County (13-3) came back for the 34- 29 win.

Myleigh Miller sank a free throw with four minutes remaining in the first period for the 8-0 advantage. The Lady Eagles led 15-7 after taking advantage of early game Tiger turnovers.

A solid Scotland County team outscored Knox County in each of the final three quarters. Knox County turned the ball over and Scotland County missed scoring opportunities in the second quarter.

Neither team played to their capabilities in the first half. Knox County held a 20-16 halftime lead. The turnover fest continued into the second half. Knox County had two players score all of their second half points.

Lily Frederick buried a game tying Tiger three with 44 seconds to play in the third quarter. Scotland County outscored Knox County 6-2 in the third period for a 22 all tie heading into the final eight minutes.

Kennedy Parrish hit a Lady Eagle home run ball for a 25-22 lead with 6:44 remaining. Elle Hamlin and Kennedy Parrish exchanged hoops. Scotland County led 26-25 with 5:02 remaining. Kennedy Parrish answered for a 27-26 KCHS lead with 3:37 standing between Knox County and a very real opportunity to advance into the winners bracket.

Elle Hamlin stole the ball for Scotland County and scored for a 28- 27 lead with three minutes to play in the game. Challee Holland sank a big Lady Tiger bucket for a 30-27 lead with 90 seconds on the game clock.

Kennedy Parrish sank two free throws for the only Lady Eagle points of the final three minutes. Scotland County held off the Lady Eagles by the final score of 34-29. The Lady Tigers went on to defeat Mark Twain (12-5) for the girls championship.

Kennedy Parrish led all scorers with 14 Knox County points. Kalli Parrish scored six points. Myleigh Miller and Adison Strong put in four points each. Brynn Schwieter added one KCHS point.

Charlee Holland led Scotland County with 13 points. Lily Frederick was next in line with six Tiger points.
