Brian Gerard Childress, 64, of Memphis died February 13, 2026 at Scotland County Hospital.
He was born the son of Donald Dean and Geraldine Jean (Inderski) Childress on December 2, 1961 in Gary, IN.
Brian was a graduate of Scotland County High School in Memphis. He worked in food service at The Establishment, Haymarket, and Lenoir Senior Living, all in Columbia, Missouri. He later retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, where he served as a Federal Meat Inspector in Ottumwa, Iowa.
When health permitted, Brian enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, playing cards, and watching sports, especially the Scotland County Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was devoted to completing the daily crossword puzzle and staying informed on current events and world news.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Scott Childress; his sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Frederick) Childress and Jeannie (Prather) Childress.
Brian is survived by his siblings: Karen Miller (David Brown), Bruce Childress (Teresa), Gary Childress (Barbee), and Chris Childress, Kathy Prater (Ron); his sister-in-law, Becky Childress (Randy Henness); stepdaughters: Sarah McQuerry, Stephanie Starke, and Stacy Barker; grandchildren; several nieces and nephews: Sarah McSparren, Courtney Bonnell, Lacey Hahn, Breanna Childress, Bryleigh Childress, Jared Prater, Lucas Prater, and Bryer Childress; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral Mass was held February 23 at St. John Catholic Church in Memphis with the Rev. Robert Fields officiating. Inurnment was in the Memphis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brian Childress in care of Kathy Prater, to be distributed in accordance with his wishes and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.
