Scotland County Ministerial Alliance met October 14 at 1 p.m. at the Lutheran Church. Those in attendance were: Mark Appold, Karen Biggs, Josh Black, Dan Hite, Mary Lou Taft, and Jack Sumption.
The Community Action Agency were a guest of the meeting and highlighted the services that they provide. Home Energy Assistance program being one of them. They help with utility bills, rent payments, home weatherization, head start, and various other programs.
Joe Miller was on hand to speak about Scotland County Youth Association. He spoke to us about collecting used ink cartridges as a fund raiser.
Clothes Closet update the first phase of the it has been completed – material costs went up significantly between the time we got our first estimate. The building is erected and exterior completed.
We are still needing interior wall framing, electrical, insulation, plumbing, heating and cooling and a metal ceiling. Joe Miller estimated a cost of $1,500.00 for the material for the electrical.
The current Clothes Closet is being overseen by Priscilla Sterner and she states that summer clothes have been moved and winter clothing in place.
Friday November 7th, from 9 to 3 lunch will be available til food runs out. The meal will be a set price and the baked foods for donation towards expenses for the new building.
The SCMA submitted a grant application for Cares Act money from the Scotland County Commission. The commission approved our request for a Pallet jack and HVAC for the Clothes Closet. We are receiving the amount of $12,182.98. Mary Lou Taft made a motion to accept Cares Act money, and Karen Biggs seconded.
The Lutheran Church has been so kind as to provide insurance on the food pantry building and the clothes closet building may be added. More information will be provided at next the meeting.
Hand sanitizer, Clorox or Lysol hand sanitizing wipes and baby wipes are still needed for the schools. Please keep this in mind and possibly have a drive at your church for these items.
