KAHOKA — Clark County broke the game open with a seven-run first inning and an eight-run second Wednesday, rolling to a 17-1 victory over Scotland County in three innings. The Indians improved to 4-3, while Scotland County fell to 2-3.

After Scotland County pushed across an unearned run in the top of the first, Clark answered immediately and never looked back. Eli Miller’s two-run home run highlighted the first-inning surge, while Corrick Hunziker delivered a two-run double as the Indians turned a 1-0 deficit into a 7-1 lead by the end of the frame.

Clark piled on in the second, scoring eight more runs. Mason Davidson drove in two with a single, Grady Webster worked a bases-loaded walk, and Amos Phillips added a two-run double as the Indians stretched the lead to 15-1. Clark tacked on two more runs in the third on Malaki Phillips’ double down the left-field line.

Hunziker led Clark at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Davidson added two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Miller homered and drove in two, Anderson knocked in three runs, and Amos Phillips finished with two RBIs. Clark totaled nine hits and took advantage of Scotland County miscues, while also stealing five bases.

Ryder Howe earned the win for Clark, allowing one unearned run on one hit over three innings while striking out five and walking one. Scotland County managed just one hit, a double by Tayte Richmond.

Scotland County’s lone run came in the first after Carter Clatt reached and later scored on a fielder’s choice. But Clark quickly took control and kept pressure on throughout the afternoon.

For Clark, the lineup production was balanced throughout. In addition to Hunziker’s big day, Davidson scored twice, Webster scored twice, Eli Miller scored twice, Amos Phillips scored twice and Ronan Anderson crossed the plate twice.
