Scotland County will be well represented at next week’s Class 1 State Cross Country Championships after Kierstyn Moore and Georgia Taylor both secured top finishes at the MSHSAA Class 1 – District 3 meet Saturday in Vandalia.
Moore turned in one of the day’s most impressive performances, placing 4th overall with a time of 21:59.29. Running with poise and confidence from the opening stretch, she stayed in the front pack throughout the race and crossed the line with a strong finish, securing her place among Missouri’s elite.
Right behind her, teammate Georgia Taylor also earned her ticket to state, finishing 11th in 23:06.98. Taylor’s consistent pace and competitive edge made the difference as she pulled away from the middle of the field and closed the final mile with determination.
Both runners will now head to the Class 1 State Meet on November 8 at Gans Creek in Columbia, where they’ll take on the top individuals from across Missouri.
In the boys’ race, Uriah Ogle represented Scotland County, finishing 87th in 30:03.34. Though he didn’t qualify for state, Ogle showed heart and perseverance throughout the race, wrapping up the season with a strong effort on a tough course.
With Moore and Taylor advancing, Scotland County will be sending two talented athletes to the state championships, each with the potential to finish their seasons on a high note.
