MEMPHIS, Mo. — The Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post 4958 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars held its 80th annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. on the courthouse lawn in Memphis.
This year’s program featured a keynote address by retired U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber, who was introduced by Senior Judge Gary Dial. Post Commander Dave Long led the event, with James Parker serving as program chairman.
The service included a variety of patriotic tributes. The placing of the wreath was performed by Steve Snodgrass and Chuck Ward. Bill Camp led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Rev. Larry Smith gave the invocation. Musical selections were provided by the Scotland County High School Band and the Memphis Community Players. Connie Courtney served as pianist, and James Parker performed “Sleep Soldier Boy.” Rev. Kathy Gardner delivered the benediction.
A rifle salute was conducted by VFW members, and the playing of “Taps” by Emma Harvey, with echo by Lily Frederick, concluded the ceremony.
The VFW extended thanks to Chuck Kigar for providing the sound system.
