Scotland County was one of only six Missouri counties recognized for having zero roadway fatalities throughout 2023 including Atchison, Daviess, Lewis, Putnam, and Worth counties. According to information from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), Missouri saw 989 roadway fatalities throughout 2023, which equates to roughly three fatal crashes per day statewide.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Kevin James, MoDOT Northeast District Assistant District Engineer, and Cpl. Justin Dunn, Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B Public Information Officer, recognized the efforts of Scotland County law enforcement, emergency personnel, community leaders, and citizens for achieving zero fatalities by presenting the Scotland County Commission with a Show-Me Zero plaque.
The Show-Me Zero program aims to achieve safer roads through education, public policy, enforcement, engineering, and emergency response.
“We can’t do it all. Local law enforcement can’t do it all. It’s a community joint effort to make this happen every year,” said Kevin James, MoDOT Assistant Engineer.
