Scotland County (3-12) fired in 17 field goals and four three pointers, playing one of their better games of the season to date for a 57-43 win over second seeded Green City (11-6) in January 30, 2024 first round girls action at the La Plata Tournament.
The Lady Gophers played without sophomore forward Jaryn Hatcher due to a suspected knee injury. Scotland County led 24- 22 at halftime after a one point first quarter.
Scotland County reeled off a decisive 16-4 third quarter run to a 40-26 lead. Green City was limited to six made field goals on the night. Scotland County held a 4-2 edge in converted three pointers. Green City did a good job getting to the free throw line and converting, sinking 20- 26 tries from the stripe.
“When we usually can get the ball to Jaryn (Hatcher) in key situations, then all of a sudden we don’t have her.” Green City coach Nick Edwards said. “We were trying our way on both ends, and we struggled.”
Green City outscored the Tigers 19-17 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the 57-43 defeat. Kwyn Hamlin led all scorers with 32 Scotland County points. Keeley Brown and Emma Harvey added six Scotland County points each.
Lily Crist led Green City with 14 points. Macy Jeffries scored 13 and Britney Jeffries added seven Lady Gopher points.
