Auditor Fitzpatrick Releases Compilation Of Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act (Cafa) Seizure Reports For 2025

State Auditor’s report shows $13,730 in total forfeiture activity across two Northeast Missouri counties; others report none

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (February 27, 2026) — Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick today released a compilation of property seizures made under Missouri’s Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act (CAFA) during calendar year 2025. The report shows law enforcement officials seized just over $3.4 million worth of property in 237 seizures. In 2024, law enforcement officials seized approximately $2.7 million worth of property in 230 seizures.

Under the Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act, law enforcement officials may take possession of property or cash believed to be involved in or related to a crime. State law requires prosecuting attorneys and the Attorney General to file information about reported seizures each year with the State Auditor’s Office.

As reported, 4.3 percent of the total seized in 2025 was transferred to federal agencies. The remainder was either returned (25.9 percent), transferred to the state (1.9 percent), still pending a final decision (67.2 percent), or listed another disposition (0.7 percent).

Additional information is available in the compilation report, which is available online. This report covers forfeitures under Missouri’s CAFA. A report on activities under federal forfeiture laws will be released later this year.

In Northeast Missouri, only two counties reported Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act (CAFA) seizures for calendar year 2025. Marion County reported two seizures totaling $12,261, and Sullivan County reported one seizure totaling $1,469. Clark, Scotland, Schuyler, Knox, Shelby, Lewis and Adair counties reported no CAFA seizure activity for the year. The State Auditor’s report reflects totals submitted by prosecuting attorneys and does not include specific case details such as names, property descriptions or individual case outcomes.
