JOE BARTON MCVEIGH
Joe Barton McVeigh, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 6th, 2025.
Joe was born on April 16, 1934, in Fulton, Missouri, to Joseph Yates and Gladys Ruth Acree McVeigh. He spent his life rooted in faith, family, and service to his community.
Joe attended Fulton High School and later graduated from the University of Missouri–Columbia. He dedicated his professional career to agriculture and education, serving as a Farm Management Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension.
A man of deep faith, Joe was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Memphis before moving his membership to Arbela Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until the time of his death.
Joe was actively involved in his community. He was a member of the Rotary Club and served on the Scotland County Hospital Board. Joe provided assistance with tax preparation/bookwork for family, friends and local farmers.
He found great joy in fishing, cheering on the Missouri Tigers in football and basketball, and following St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family.
Joe married Glenna F. Morris in 1958, and to this union three sons were born. In 2002, he married Kathleen Jones McVeigh, and they shared many years together until her death in 2015.
He is survived by his sons; J. Randall “Randy” McVeigh and wife Mina of Johnson City, Tennessee; Richard “Rick” McVeigh and wife Kami of Peoria, Illinois/Boonville, Missouri; and Kenneth “Ken” McVeigh and wife Deb of Lincoln, Nebraska.
He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Hamilton McVeigh and wife, Whitney; Thadeus McVeigh and wife, Brittany; Kyle McVeigh; Carter McVeigh; Sean McVeigh and wife, Monika; Hank McVeigh and wife, Laura; and step-grandchildren, Kati Watts; Trevor Kappelman and wife, Janee; Chase Doubet and wife, Grace; and Emma Doubet.
Joe was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren: Matthew McVeigh; Charlie McVeigh; Birdie McVeigh; Jay McVeigh; Hayden McVeigh; step-great-grandchildren: Keali Watts, Evea Watts, Ezekiel Watts; Hadleigh Kappelman; Gretchen Kappelman; Genesis Kappelman; and Ila Doubet.
He is also survived by his brothers, Carroll McVeigh and wife, Judy of Clinton, Missouri, and Bob McVeigh of Fulton, Missouri; his sisters, Helen Turner Murphy of Elkhart, Indiana, and Mary Humphrey of Fulton, Missouri; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kathleen McVeigh.
There will be no funeral services. A memorial plaque will be placed at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Fulton, Missouri. A private celebration of life is planned for the spring of 2026 for close family and friends.
