CORY E. SIMERL

Cory E. Simerl of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on October 6, 2025, at Corpus Christi Medical Center. He was born June 27, 1985, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Danny and Kimberly Simerl of Memphis, Missouri. Cory was their only child.

After graduating from high school, Cory left Memphis and began a career as a welder, working on the road for several years. His work allowed him to travel and live in several states before eventually settling in Texas.

On March 31, 2012, Cory was united in marriage to Shelly Matthew and her daughter, Alexis Sayre. To this union, two children were born — Keira Jolie and Traevin Eugene.

Cory loved hunting, fishing, and gambling, and he was always eager to try new things. He enjoyed a good adventure, but above all, he cherished spending time with his children and giving them experiences they would remember for a lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his father, Danny Simerl; paternal great-grandparents, Junior and Marja Simerl; paternal grandfather, Jackie Simerl; maternal grandparents, Albert and Joyce Bowens of Arizona; his uncle, Albert Bowens Jr. of Arizona; his aunt, Kathy Lanphier of Kirksville, Missouri; and a cousin, Royce Bowens of Downing, Missouri.

Survivors include his children, Alexis Sayre of Texas, and Keira and Traevin Simerl of Rutledge, Missouri; his mother, Kimberly Simerl of Rutledge; Steve Simpson of Rutledge; Jamaisa (Jeremy) Lance of St. Joseph, Missouri; Cody Simpson of Arbela; and Andrew Forest of Davenport, Iowa. He is also survived by his cousin, Amanda Shinn, who was like the sister he never had; his maternal grandmother, Levonne Simerl of Memphis, Missouri; his aunt, Terri (Mitch) Tague of Memphis; uncles, Steve (Lori) Simerl of Jefferson City, Missouri, and David (Rose) Bowens of Kirksville, Missouri; uncle David Shinn of North Carolina; several cousins; and many lifelong friends he met along his many adventures.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
