Scotland County native Kyle Shelley has stepped into a familiar world with a fresh perspective as the newest insurance agent at Scotland County Farm Bureau.
At 34 years old, Kyle is proud to be serving the community where he was born and raised. He graduated in 2010 from Scotland County R-1 High School and went on to graduate from Linn State Technical College in 2012, where he studied heating and cooling.
“Out of Linn, I worked heating and cooling, construction, and then crop insurance for eight years,” he said.
On May 19, Kyle officially started as an agent with Farm Bureau. While insurance wasn’t originally in his plans, the job quickly grew on him.
“I just kind of fell into it, but honestly, I enjoy working with the people. I enjoy being around people and helping them through their time of need,” Kyle said.
It also helps that he’s no stranger to the business. His father, Greg Shelley, has been a long-time agent at Scotland County Farm Bureau and has been serving the area for over 30 years.
“I’ve been around insurance for a long time and I saw all the good that he was able to do for a lot of people here,” Kyle said. “I never saw myself really doing it, but I enjoy doing it.”
When asked what lessons he’s picked up from watching his dad, Kyle didn’t hesitate to answer. “Some of the biggest things I’ve taken from dad is, honesty and integrity.”
Kyle’s role includes a wide range of services. “My job entails risk management, advising, and protecting priorities,” he said.
He offers auto, home, life, business, and other insurance services, primarily serving Scotland County, though he’s licensed to assist clients throughout Missouri.
Kyle enjoys being a part of the community and helping people where and when they need it most. The gratification of being there when people need it the most is what motivates him daily.
Outside of work, Kyle enjoys hunting, fishing, going to barbecues, watching football, and hanging out with family and friends.
Though he hasn’t set any long-term goals just yet, he’s focused on serving his community. “I’m just taking one day at a time for now. I’m very excited to help people that I know in the community,” he said.
Kyle encourages anyone with questions about insurance to reach out.
“I guess if I can help them in some way at all, just come talk to me,” Kyle said. “I’m happy to be home and a small fabric in the community and I’m looking to help anybody with their insurance needs.”
The Scotland County Farm Bureau office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office is located at 388 S. Clay St. in Memphis, MO. You can reach out for any insurance needs at 660-465-2623.
