The Memphis Board of Aldermen met in regular session on Thursday, June 5, 2025, with Mayor Mike Ahland presiding. Aldermen Mike Gundy, Lane Campbell, Katie Harris, and Mike Stone were all present, along with several department heads and city staff.
Among the key items of business was approval of liquor license renewals for Gas & More, The Party Shack, and Casey’s. The board unanimously approved the licenses on a motion by Alderman Stone, seconded by Alderman Harris.
The council also addressed a citizen concern regarding the condition of the Old Memphis Cemetery, located behind the Nutrition Site. Sharon Bradley had contacted City Hall noting the cemetery’s lack of maintenance. Following discussion and input from George Meier, the board voted to begin regular city maintenance of the cemetery. The motion was made by Alderman Harris and seconded by Alderman Campbell, passing unanimously.
City Administrator Stacy Alexander provided several updates, including damage to lagoon pumps from lightning, a proposed rent increase at the fire station to be discussed further at the July 3 meeting, and his plans for retirement. He also received approval from the board to place a cardboard recycling dumpster at Skyline.
Department heads shared monthly reports, including Electric Department head Jordan Fulk, who noted tree trimming around power lines, lighting repairs at the New Lake pavilion, and progress on a circuit rebuild at Missouri and Forest. Water/Sewer head Randall Aldridge reported on ongoing work related to lead and copper inventories, leak inspections, and meter installations.
Several aldermen shared citizen concerns and suggestions. Alderman Gundy asked about permits for a potential wine and cheese event and suggested adding gravel parking at the Old Lake. Alderman Campbell relayed a complaint about drainage issues near the S. Market bridge, clarifying that the bridge is maintained by the state. Alderman Harris proposed signage for long-term campers and noted positive feedback on the Memorial Day flags. Alderman Stone expressed concern over road conditions and discussed attending a recent Missouri Extension meeting.
Mayor Ahland shared that an employee had reported a need for roof repairs at the city’s filter plant.
The board entered a closed session at 7:50 p.m. to discuss legal matters under RSMo 610.021(1). Following the closed session, the meeting adjourned at 8:59 p.m.
