Maynard Leon Johnston, 75, of Rutledge, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025 at his residence in Rutledge, Missouri.
He was born on May 22, 1949, in Rutledge, Missouri, the son of Irvin and Verneta Bausell Johnston.
Maynard attended Rutledge Elementary School and graduated from the Gorin High School in the Class of 1967. He continued his education at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri.
On April 1, 1969 Maynard was drafted into the United State Army. He did basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, advanced training in Ft. Carson, Colorado, and was sent to Vietnam on June 30, 1970, until March 27, 1971 when he was discharged.
He was owned and operated Johnston Auto Body Repair for 35 years and worked at the Rutledge Dog and Gun Auction since he was 13 years old.
He enjoyed sports and outdoor activities, especially arrowhead and mushroom hunting, and was an animal lover especially his dogs.
On December 31, 1991, he married Jennifer Peterson and she survives of the home in Rutledge, Missouri; he is also survived by three children, Jessica Lambert of Springfield, Missouri, Eric Johnston of Rutledge, Missouri, and Kyle Johnston also of Rutledge, Missouri; a granddaughter, Reagan Lambert of Springfield, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Verneta Johnston; a brother, Danny Johnston; two sisters, Rose Marie Baker and Wanda Johnston.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025, at the funeral home.
Full Military Graveside Honors will be in the Pauline Cemetery in Rutledge, Missouri, by the Memphis VFW Post.
