(1967-2025)

Michael Jay Smith, 57, of Memphis died Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at his home.

He was born the son of Dennis Terry and Linda Louise (Taft) Smith on September 22, 1967 in Corning, New York. Michael graduated from Corning High School.

Michael married the former Brenda Kay Peterson. She preceded him in death in 2011.

He brought warmth and laughter to those around him throughout his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. But Michael especially treasured spending time with his grandchildren.

Michael was a devoted family man who cherished the time he spent with his loved ones. He found joy in making others laugh and was known for his sense of humor that could brighten any room. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness to those fortunate enough to have known him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda, and his mother, Linda.

He is survived by his children: Sarah Fox, Brandon Smith and Jessica Chilson; father, Dennis Smith; sister, Michelle McCaslin; and grandchildren: Hunter, Mollie, Dustin, Linley and River – all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
