MEMPHIS, Mo. — The Memphis Board of Aldermen met Thursday, March 6, at City Hall, addressing routine municipal business, hearing reports from department heads, and discussing park improvements before entering a closed session to review personnel, legal, and property matters.
Mayor Mike Ahland called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. at 125 W. Jefferson St. Aldermen present included Lane Campbell, Katie Harris and Jenny Aldridge. Alderman Mike Gundy was absent. City Administrator Stacy Alexander, City Attorney Brett Bozarth, and Office Clerk Jessica Newcomer were also in attendance.
The board unanimously approved minutes from the February 5 meeting and authorized payment of monthly bills.
Department heads reported on a variety of operational efforts across the city:
Street Department Head Roger Tinkle said his team focused on pothole repairs and curb and tube cleanings. Crews also provided storm response and assisted with trash collection routes.
Electric Department Head Jordon Fulk noted the repair of streetlights citywide and maintenance work at the airport runway. His department also completed routine service read-ins and read-outs, maintained a utility truck, and removed a tree from East Madison Street.
Water and Sewer Department Head Randall Aldridge detailed curb valve and stem replacements on South Adams and East Jefferson streets. He said the department replaced frozen water meters and performed two sewer service line inspections.
Parks and Recreation Department Head Cecily Williams reported ongoing efforts to prepare for the Little League season. She and colleague George completed updates at the ball field snack stand and worked on promotional materials for Johnson Park’s facilities.
During council reports, Alderman Harris commended the newly installed playground equipment at Johnson Park, citing positive community feedback. She also relayed citizen complaints concerning the condition of some properties within city limits. Aldermen Campbell and Aldridge, along with Mayor Ahland, had no additional updates.
With no new or unfinished business to address, the board voted to enter a closed session at 6:56 p.m., citing Missouri Revised Statutes 610.021, sections 1, 2 and 3, which permit discussions regarding legal actions, real estate transactions, and personnel matters.
In closed session, the board discussed various legal and personnel issues with City Attorney Bozarth.
Following the session, the board reconvened briefly in open session before adjourning at 8:16 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Memphis Board of Aldermen is scheduled for April 3 at Memphis City Hall.
