 Scotland County R-1 School District held its 43rd annual Spelling Bee on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the elementary school gymnasium. There were two competitions; a competition between second and third grade students as well as a competition for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. 

The winner of the second and third grade competition was third grade student, Chandler Harris. Chandler is the son of Olivia Harris and Kyle Childress. The runner-up was fellow third grade student, Alice McClamroch. Alice is the daughter of Dakota McClamroch. The second grade participants were Dominic Cline, Weston Dale, Liam Edwards, Mason Fuller, Nathan McCluskey, and Ryker Stott. The alternates were Adam Anderson and Ellie Sears. The third grade participants were Haiden Douglas, Rhett Farris, Chandler Harris, Alice McClamroch, Eve Taylor, and Brady Tippett. The alternates were Cooper Closser and Izzy Hamilton. 

The winner of the fourth through sixth grade competition was fifth grade student, Evolette Hoyal. Evolette is the daughter of Achim and Rena Hoyal. The runner-up was fellow fifth grade student, Brently Lapsley. Brently is the son of Tina Lapsley. The fourth grade participants were Piper Bourgeois, Kashton Campbell, Landon Harvey, Kasen Mathews, Hallie Sears, and Alaina Smith. The alternates were Taylor Farris and Elsa Onken. The fifth grade participants were Adelyn Brown, Maudi Fountain, Evolette Hoyal, Abriel Hunt, Brently Lapsley, and Brinley Shultz. The alternates were Jericho Black and Weston Tallman. The sixth grade participants were Tania Bashkirova, Kynzlea Blake, Jaxon Cowell, Zavier Dale, Bethany Smith, and Maci Ward. The alternate was Adrienne Lucas. Russ Parsons was absent. 

Each year, the winner of each Bee is awarded a dictionary donated by the Epsilon Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Sheila Berkowitz, Epsilon Iota member, presented the dictionaries to the winners on each bee. 

The Scotland County R-1 School District would like to thank Sheila Berkowitz for donating her time to create the master list and serving as the pronouncer. We would also like to thank Epsilon Iota for the generous donation of the dictionaries.
