The Scotland County Lady Tigers opened their 2024-25 basketball season with a hard-fought 50- 45 victory over the visiting Clark County Lady Indians on Tuesday night. Fueled by a strong performance from senior leader Charlee Holland, Scotland County overcame an early deficit to secure the win.
The Lady Tigers found themselves trailing 14-10 after the first quarter, with Clark County’s freshman standout Sydnee Binsbacher scoring seven early points. However, Scotland’s offense heated up in the second quarter, as Holland poured in 10 of the team’s 17 points. Kwynn Hamlin chipped in five to help the Lady Tigers surge ahead and take a 27-20 lead into halftime.
Scotland County relied on a team-oriented approach in the second half, spreading their scoring across multiple players. While the Lady Indians edged them 12-11 in the third quarter behind another strong showing from Binsbacher, Scotland County maintained their composure. Holland, Hamlin, and Lilly Frederick each stepped up, contributing key baskets to keep Clark County at bay.
In the fourth quarter, Binsbacher continued to shine, scoring 11 of her game-high 26 points as the Lady Indians made one last push. But Scotland’s defense held firm in the closing minutes, preserving the five-point victory.
Holland led the way for the Lady Tigers with 19 points, followed by Hamlin with 15 and Frederick with 10. Keely Brown added four points, and Ailea Hayes chipped in two. While the Lady Tigers struggled at the free-throw line, hitting 9 of 23 attempts, their balanced attack and timely scoring proved to be the difference.
