Scotland County, Mo. – “A seat belt and car seat saved lives today,” Scotland County Deputy Jason Moss told the Memphis Democrat after responding to a rollover crash on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024.
Rebekah Lorcey, 23, and a 4-year-old child were pulled from the mangled wreckage of a vehicle after a rollover by area emergency responders.
“The vehicle was traveling east on Route T, one-half mile east of Bible Grove, when it lost control, crossed the center line, exited the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch embankment, went airborne over a fence, and rolled multiple times in a pasture, coming to rest on its side. A bystander helped get a 4-year-old toddler from his car seat without any injuries,” Moss said.
“The Jaws of Life and stabilization airbags were used to extricate the 23-year-old female driver. She had her seat belt on. She was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville with moderate injuries. After she was freed from the wreckage, it was determined her injuries did not require air transport from the scene,” Moss added.
Scotland County Ambulance, Air Evac, Scotland County Rural Fire Rescue, Rutledge Fire Department and First Responders, the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Lakeside Towing responded to the call.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to Rutledge Fire Chief Javi Gil.
