DAVID WAYNE NEWMAN

 

David Wayne Newman, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on August 15, 2024, at the home of his sister with family surrounding him. 

David was born June 19th, 1950, in Ottumwa IA, the son of Wayne and Helen Newman. 

He spent most of his life in Memphis where he was known for his laughter and being a kind person who would help anyone out. In David’s younger years he served in the Missouri National Guard, and he volunteered for the Scotland County fire department. David worked at Crawford’s Auto Electric for many years until it closed and was a master at rebuilding starters and alternators. He retired from the Memphis Housing Authority after 10 years in 2022. 

David’s passion was being an FCC licensed amateur (HAM) radio operator where he made thousands of contacts around the world and became the FEMA certified emergency communications coordinator for Scotland County. David was baptized many years ago and accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. He loved life, his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed. 

He was married to Vicki Orf and to this union was born a son, Joshua. He later married Beverly Moffett and to this union was born one son, Davin and gained three children Mark, Jenny and Dustin. 

David is survived by his children Joshua (Elizabeth) Newman of Fulton MO, Davin (Ashlynn) Newman of Clinton MO, Mark Westhoff of Moberly MO, Jenny (Rob) Kerkmann of Memphis MO, and Dustin (Natalie) Cook of Memphis MO; 11 grandchildren: Ryan, Rylee, Ayden, Daxton, Cannon, Nikki, Griffan, Spencer, Chase, Hunter and Reese; his sister Karen Vinzant of Green City and brothers Richard Newman of Kirksville and Bob (Angela) Newman of Memphis and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
