August 30, 1947 – January 31, 2024 

Barbara Sue Harvey was born to Bernerd E. and Mary Geneva Harvey on August 30, 1947. She was the second of four children. Pat was the oldest followed by Barbara, then two brothers Jim and Dan. 

Barbara is survived by her husband Henry; sons Henry II (Julie) and Stewart (Waltedda) all of Memphis; her grandchildren, Abby, Jenna, Morgan, Ethan, Corbin and Dane Blessing, brothers Jim (Vonda) Harvey of Magnolia, Texas and Dan (Sandy) of Olathe, Kansas, brother-in-law Phillip (Kathie) Blessing of Koloa, Hawaii, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tara; sister Pat Smith; father and mother-in-law Jacob and Katherine Blessing; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Mary Ann Blessing; and nephew Rusty Smith. 

Barbara was raised on a farm north of Memphis, Mo. She attended the Brock Elementary School and graduated with the last class of 1961 before consolidation into the Memphis School District. She graduated from Scotland County R-I with the class of 1965. 

After graduation, she attended and graduated with honors from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in the class of 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Business Education. 

She married Henry Blessing on July 19, 1969 and they settled on the family farm west of Memphis. She taught one year at Queen City High School before they started their family. After losing a daughter Tara Suzanne at birth, Barbara and Henry had sons Henry Blessing II (Julie) and Stewart Blessing (Waltedda). Their six grandchildren, Abby, Jenna, Morgan, Ethan, Corbin and Dane completed the family. 

When the boys were in school, Barbara substituted for about 5 ½ years in the public school systems in Scotland and Schuyler Counties before starting work for the State of Missouri’s Family Services Division. She was employed with the State for the next 23 years, retiring on December 31, 2007. While employed for the State, she was a caseworker, case manager, supervisor, County Director, and finally the Circuit Manager for the First Judicial Circuit of the Children’s Division. 

She had many hobbies including gardening, photography, scrapbooking, reading, and had a passion for quilting. She could always be found at her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. She taught Sunday school for the larger part of her life, and was a pianist for the Downing Christian Church where she and her family have attended for the past 54 years. 

Funeral services will be held at Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Music will be congregational singing of “In The Garden” and “Because He Lives” with pianist, Donna Byrn. Pallbearers will be Ethan Blessing, Corbin Blessing, Dane Blessing, Jarrod Blessing, Doug Mathes and Brandon Harvey. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Downing Christian Church. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to Burial will be in the Dover Cemetery, east of Downing, Missouri.
