Jo Ann Moorman, age 79, of Mystic, IA went to be with the lord on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Jo Ann was born on August 22, 1940 in Memphis, Missouri, the daughter of Jesse Easterday and Pansy June (Childress) Easterday. She graduated in 1957 from Memphis High School in Memphis, Missouri. She furthered her education in El Camino, California in 1957. Jo Ann was united in marriage to Fred Allen Moorman Sr. on October 18, 1958. To this union, eleven children were born, Marla, Fred Jr, David, Becky, Sheila, Kathy, Holly, Mary Ann, Jaime, Josh, and Jake.
Jo Ann was a very hard worker. She worked for 33 years at Wells Manufacturing as a Logistics technician. Even if she was sick, she didn’t miss a day of work. She received 33 perfect attendance awards.
Jo Ann was very active throughout her lifetime. In 1957, she was the Appanoose County Rodeo Queen. She was on the Mystic 4th of July Booster Club for many years, ran the Mystic Beauty/Cutie Contest yearly, and served on the Mystic Community Church Board for 13 years. She was the Manager of Hope Chest Thrift Store in Centerville. Jo Ann started and led her own bowling team, and Moorman’s TV & Appliance with her husband Fred for over 40 years. She has been a huge supporter of CHS Wrestling Booster Club for several years. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and other activities. Jo Ann enjoyed going to bingo and bowling with her friends and family.
Left to cherish Jo Ann’s memory are her husband of over 61 years, Fred Moorman Sr.; her children, Fred (Gail) Moorman Jr., David (Gloria) Moorman, Becky (Tim) Thomas, Sheila (Terry) Kauzlarich, Kathy Henderson, Holly (Shawn) Oden, Mary Ann (Scott) Sampson, Jaime (Jamie) Cochran, Josh (Shirley) Moorman, and Jake (Jessica) Moorman; twenty eight grandchildren, Creighton Moorman, Ethan (Rachel) Moorman, Jeremy (Kayla) Moorman, Jesse (Bailey) Moorman, Jordan (Conner) Kelderman, Nicholas Thomas, Sheena (Mark) Sullivan, Cody (Angelee) Kauzlarich, Lacey (Quinn) Leith, Kayden Kauzlarich, Travis Henderson, Trevor Henderson, Joslyn Henderson, Caleb Jellison, Logan Jellison, Tiger Terpstra, Whitton Oden, Tye Oden, Kylie Sampson, Kellen Sampson, Briar Cochran, Emma Cochran, Sophie Cochran, Ashley (Austin) Sommerla, Alec Moorman, Reegan Moorman, Gage Moorman, and Zoie Moorman; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Egbert, in laws, Bill (Mary Beth) Moorman, Clyde (Anne) Moorman, Joan Moorman, a long-time family friend, Rose Clark; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Pansy Easterday; a daughter, Marla Moorman; in laws, Rudolph and Katherine Moorman; sisters, Donna Davis, Mary Lockhead, and Margaret Easterday; and a grandson, Devon McCorkle.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the Mystic Community Church with Pastor Holly Oden officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Mystic.
Memorials have been established to the family of Jo Ann Moorman, to assist with funeral expenses and to buy a church bell in Jo Ann’s name to honor her, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, C/O Moorman Family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
