Mary Margaret (Henderson) Robeson, 79, of rural Memphis, MO passed away May 26, 2020 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
She was born January 1, 1941 in Ottumwa, IA to Lonel and Aletha (Southmayd) Henderson. Margaret married Harry T. Robeson on June 30, 1957. To this union they had 2 children, Lonel Dean (Lon) and Laurel Jean (Laurie) Robeson.
Margaret attended one year at Poe Elementary School in rural Scotland County and graduated from Memphis High School. She was an active farm wife, house wife, and horse woman. She also worked at Memphis Bottling Company 1971-1977. She went back to school and obtained her Registered Nurse Diploma from Indian Hills Community College in 1990.
She worked for Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Registered Nurse 1990-1995, Scotland County Care Center 1995-2007, and Scotland County Memorial Hospital 2007-2018 for a total of 28 years in the nursing profession. She was also a member of the Scotland County Health Department Board 2005-2019.
Margaret was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Memphis, MO, Relay for Life, and Poe Women’s Club. She dedicated her time, talents, and donations to many charitable causes.
Devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved family, friends, gardening, pets, and outdoor activities. She was a well known horse woman, deer hunter, pickle maker, and baker. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, knitting, walking, and bird watching. Margaret was a lifelong learner, always challenging herself intellectually whether it be reading a book, completing her high school education through correspondence courses while raising two kids, going back to nursing school later in life, or completing crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Lonel and Aletha Henderson and her husband, Harry Robeson.
Margaret is survived by her beloved friend of 15 years, Jerry Scott of Memphis, MO; brother Fred Henderson (Elaine Cross) of Memphis, MO; sister Crystal (Roger) Riebel of Mitchelville, IA; son Lon (Mary) Robeson of Kansas City, MO; daughter Laurie (Jim) Ward of Memphis, MO; grandson Cody (Cassie) Ward of Merriam, KS; granddaughter Cheyenne (Greg) Neagle of Bloomfield, IA; great-granddaughter Cora Neagle and soon to be sibling of Bloomfield, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and “rent-a-kids”.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Brock Cemetery Association or to the Memphis United Methodist Church in care of Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St. Memphis, Missouri 63555.
Funeral Services were held Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2020 at the Payne Funeral chapel with Mary Lou Toft officiating. At the conclusion of the services cremation rites were accorded.
Pallbearers were Greg Neagle, Jeff Henderson, Mark Robeson, Vernon Woods, Brian Robinson, Chad Alshouse, Shawn Scott, and Larry Miller.
