The Scotland County School Foundation awarded twenty-three dual credit scholarships totaling $5589.00 for Scotland County R-1 juniors and seniors and seven mini-grants totaling $1522.86 for SCR-1 elementary and secondary teachers for the fall 2025 semester.
SCR-1 junior and senior students can take dual credit courses which are college-level classes taken in high school that provide credit for both high school graduation and a college degree.
The courses include literature, science, social studies, math, and a variety of other options and are typically taught by a qualified high school instructor or online by a college, and the grades appear on a student’s permanent high school and college academic records.
Scotland County partners with Moberly Area Community College (MACC) for the dual credit courses. The main benefits include a lower cost compared to traditional college tuition for students and gives them a preview of college-level work.
The Foundation funded mini-grants to teachers in the Scotland County R-1 School District for projects and resources that enhance classroom instruction. Junior high and high school faculty receiving grants were Jane Gordiichuk, Tia Hamilton, Melissa Hamm, Riley Lucas, Kalissa Thomas, and Terri Young. First grade teachers Abbey Dodge and Kade Richmond received the grant jointly for instructional materials.
