Temperatures in the sixties. Autumn breeze in the air. Bleachers filled with blue. In week two of football the Scotland County Tigers welcomed the Highland Cougars to town. Scotland County was coming off of a week one win at Louisiana. Highland was defeated by Mark Twain in week one of their season.
Scotland County would kick to start the contest. Touchback. Highland would start the drive from their 20 yard line. Highland’s rushing attack would move the ball across midfield and into Scotland County territory. Facing third and eleven from the Tiger’s 34 yard line, the Cougars dialed up a pass. Levi Stott had different plans.
Stott intercepted the pass at the Tiger’s 24 yard line. Giving Scotland County the ball with 7:00 remaining in the first quarter. Triplett would finish the drive with a five yard run for the Tigers first score of the night. Owen Brown added the extra point, and Scotland County was out to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
One minute into the second quarter of play, Highland would face a fourth down with four to go at midfield. A cast of Tigers collapsed on the quarterback’s run up the middle, forcing a turnover on downs. On their next offensive drive, a Kamdyn Forest run up the middle pushed Scotland County into Highland territory once again.
Beau Triplett finished the drive with a twenty yard run and another Tiger Touchdown. Owen Brown added an extra point to give Scotland County an early 14-0 lead.

Bringing the score to Scotland County 14, Highland 8. With 5:00 remaining in the first half, the Tigers would get the ball back. On first and ten from their own 49 yard line, Beau Triplett found another hole and broke free. Giving Triplett his third touchdown of the night. This one nearly a fifty yard run. Scotland County would go for the two point conversion. Dane Blessing found Owen Brown for the two point conversion, giving Scotland County a 22-8 lead. Both defenses showed up to start the second half. Scotland County started with the football, and continued their attack on the ground. The Cougars were able to contain Scotland County, forcing a punt and giving them the ball back. Highland mounted another offensive drive that pushed them into Tiger territory with 3:00 remaining in the third quarter. With a chance to make it a one possession game, Highland faced a fourth and three from the Scotland County three yard line. Vince Dale wasn’t having it. Dale knocked down the Cougar’s pass attempt.
Yet another big play from the Tiger’s defense. The Scotland County offense would make a push to midfield. Ending the third quarter with the fourteen point lead.
Scotland County would continue to eat up the clock in the fourth quarter. With 2:02 remaining in the fourth quarter, Vince Dale would add the exclamation point for the Tigers.
