Scotland County Falls to Schuyler County at Home, Runs Away From Marceline, and Loses a One Possession Game at Brashear

The Scotland County Tigers were active on the hardwood this week. Playing contests on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night. The Tigers kicked off their week by hosting the Schuyler County Rams, who came into town with a record of 12 wins, 2 losses.
The Tigers came out showing that they were up to the challenge, outscoring the Rams 10-2 early in the first quarter. The Rams responded with a run of their own to end the quarter, ending the first eight minutes of play with a score of Scotland County 15, Schuyler County 14. Corbin Blessing provided the early spark for the Tigers, scoring 8 of Scotland County’s 15 first quarter points.
The contest went back and forth in the second quarter, with both teams picking up their intensity on the defensive side of the basketball. Both teams scored 13 points in the quarter to send the game to halftime with a score of Scotland County 28, Schuyler County 27.
The Schuyler County offense started to heat up in the second half. Schuyler County outscored the Tigers 27 to 13 in the third quarter to reclaim the lead, and send the contest to the fourth quarter with a score of Schuyler County 54, Scotland County 41.
Scotland County fought their way back with their defense in the last quarter of play. Holding the Rams to only 4 field goals, and 11 points in the quarter. The Tigers scored 17 points in the quarter to narrow the gap, but would end the contest trailing by a score of Schuyler County 65, Scotland County 58.
Corbin Blessing led the Scotland County scoring attack. Recording 15 points, 9 of which came from beyond the arc.
Layne Stott scored 14 points for the Tigers, and was active on both ends of the floor, doing his best to slow down Schuyler County standout Kale Windy.
Scotland County 81, Marceline 41

Scotland County hosted the Marceline Tigers on Thursday night. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, and would never look back. Outscoring Marceline by 35 points in the first half. Sending the game to halftime with a score of Scotland County 53, Marceline 18. Layne Stott led the way for Scotland County in the first quarter, tallying 9 points in the first. Eight Scotland County players would get in the book in the second quarter of play.
The second half featured Scotland County extending their lead further, taking the contest to the fourth quarter with a score of Scotland County 73, Marceline 30. Scotland County would run out the clock in the final quarter of play with a final score of Scotland County 81, Marceline 41.
Eleven of twelve Scotland County players scored in the contest.

Brashear 60, Scotland County 58

Scotland County played their final game of the week on the road, traveling to Brashear to take on the Tigers on their homecoming night. Scotland County fell behind early, struggling to score in the first quarter. Corbin Blessing recorded two made 3 pointers to record 6 of the Tigers 8 first quarter points. The first quarter would end with a score of Brashear 17, Scotland County 8.
Scotland County would flip the script in the second quarter. Scoring 18 points of their own, and holding Brashear to 9. Sending the game to halftime tied with a score of Scotland County 26, Brashear 26.
Scotland County would reclaim the lead in the second half, sparked by some sharp shooting from Junior Layne Stott. Scotland County would end the third quarter with a three point lead, Scotland County 39, Brashear 36.
Both offenses came to life in the final quarter of play. Scotland County scored 19 points in the quarter, but their defense gave up 24 points to Brashear late. Bringing the contest to an end with a final score of Brashear 60, Scotland County 58. Giving Scotland County another one possession loss, their fifth of the season.
Corbin Blessing led the scoring attack for Scotland County. Scoring 15 points, 12 of which came on his four made 3 point field goals.
Scotland County will travel to play in the La Plata Invitational next week. Kicking off play Monday night in another matchup with Schuyler County.
