Dreams And Accomplishments: Samara Brush Completes Initial Entry Rotary Wing Training For US Army UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter Pilot
Samara Jai’lyn Brush has successfully completed Initial Entry Rotary Wing training for the United States Army as a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilot. Brush’s entire career has been based entirely in Army aviation. Brush’s first MOS after joining the Iowa Army National Guard in 2015 was as an Aircraft Electrician. She graduated second in her class as an honor graduate. Brush’s deployment in 2017 to Iraq/Kuwait gave her many opportunities to expand her knowledge, cross-train, and help many different MOS’s with aircraft maintenance during this time and the years that followed. This knowledge provided her the path to further her career, and graduate first in her reclassification course to become an Aircraft Mechanic. Brush graduated Warrant Officer Candidate School in 2024 as a Warrant Officer 1. Brush’s recent graduation in the Initial Entry Rotary Wing training allows her to serve as an Iowa Army National Guard Aviator, thus continuing to follow her dreams.
Warrant Officer 1 Brush is the of daughter of Dr. Samantha and Jay Brush of Memphis and a 2011 graduate of Scotland County R-1 School. In conversation, she is quick to share that she always wanted a career in aviation. Her great-grandmother (Arlene Agre) received her private pilot license in the 1950’s, and her grandmother’s stories made her fall in love with the idea of pursuing aviation. Her grandpa (Jackie Goosey) took her to her first fly-in at the Memphis Pancake Days, where she had her first airplane ride in a small Cessna at a young age, and from there she said there was no looking back.
Immediately out of high school, Brush attended college for aviation pilot training where she obtained her private pilot license. Through hard work and dedication toward her career, WO1 Brush has moved forward, creating the career that she has today, completing a dream from childhood, and living a daily dream in the Iowa National Guard. WO1 Brush will be returning home to Iowa to fly medevac for the Iowa National Guard.
