South Gorin Maintains Tax Levy, Moves Ahead on Road and Church Projects
SOUTH GORIN, Mo. – The South Gorin Board of Aldermen voted to keep the city’s tax levy unchanged during its regular meeting Aug. 15, while approving several infrastructure and administrative measures.
The meeting opened at 7 p.m. at City Hall with board members Teel Pflum, Donald Pflum, Dorothy Kussman, Billy Bergher, Rebecca Bass, Delaney Laughead and Chris Feeney present.
Following unanimous approval of the agenda and previous meeting minutes, the board addressed financial matters. It approved payment of the streetlight bill from the road fund and authorized other bills to be paid from the general fund.
In a roll call vote, the board voted unanimously to pay the Missouri Municipal League membership dues through December 2026.
Chris Feeney, representing Northeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission, spoke to the board about various grant opportunities and the options available to the city.
A project to dig ditches was postponed due to extreme heat.
The city also received an update regarding a church property deed. Officials said the deed is now with the abstract office, which is expected to provide a closing date soon.
An update on a fuel tank repair indicated the tank will need to be removed from its stand for work to proceed.
Bergher made a motion to investigate the cost of adding Elm Street, Northwest Santa Fe Street and Gorin Street to the city’s graveling project. If the total remains under $4,000, the work will move forward. The motion passed unanimously in a roll call vote.
The board also approved the formation of a fundraising committee before adjourning.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
