MEMPHIS, Mo. — Several road and bridge improvements in Scotland County are included in the Missouri Department of Transportation’s (MoDOT) Draft 2026–2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which is currently open for public comment through June 6.
The draft STIP identifies both construction-ready projects and longer-term proposals still in the early design or scoping phase. In Scotland County, planned investments target improved safety, infrastructure preservation, and rural connectivity.
A major upcoming construction project involves pavement resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation on U.S. Highway 136. The work will stretch from the Schuyler County line near Downing to U.S. Route 63 in Lancaster in Adair County. The project, estimated at $5.63 million, includes resurfacing and bridge work on eastbound and westbound lanes, along with improvements to bridges A3070 and A3071. The contract is scheduled to be awarded in September 2025, with construction likely to follow in 2026.
In addition to funded construction, Scotland County also has one project currently in the scoping and design stage. MoDOT is evaluating a potential bridge improvement on Route T over Little Fox River, located 0.5 mile east of Route M near Bible Grove. The project (Job No. NE0163) is estimated to cost between $1 million and $2 million and is being funded through the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP). Design and planning work is scheduled through 2030.
These improvements aim to enhance rural road safety, maintain critical east-west travel corridors, and ensure long-term reliability of key structures in the region.
MoDOT is inviting residents to review the draft STIP and provide input through June 6, 2025. Public comments may be submitted by email at [email protected], by phone at 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636), or online at modot.org.
All public input will be reviewed by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission prior to a final vote on the program, scheduled for July 9, 2025.
