The Scotland County Farm Bureau is pleased to announce that Chris Chinn, Missouri Director of Agriculture, will be the featured speaker at its annual meeting on September 10. Chinn, a fifth-generation Missouri farmer, was appointed Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture in January 2017. She has held leadership positions in agriculture at the local, state, and national levels for more than 18 years, working tirelessly to advance the state’s agriculture industry.
As Director of Agriculture, Chinn spearheaded the MORE Strategic Initiative, which aims to protect and promote Missouri’s agriculture through its four pillars: Grow MORE, Reach MORE, Connect MORE, and Empower MORE. These pillars address the needs of both farmers and consumers across the state. In her role, Chinn collaborates closely with Governor Mike Parson and other cabinet members, helping to advance the Governor’s priorities in workforce development and infrastructure. These initiatives have expanded job opportunities in agriculture and supported critical repairs to roadways, bridges, and buildings.
In 2007, Chinn served as chairman of the American Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee and was a member of the board of directors for the American Farm Bureau Federation. In 2013, she was named one of the four Faces of Farming and Ranching by the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance, a national honor recognizing farmers and ranchers committed to sharing their stories with the public.
Chinn resides on her family’s farm in Shelby County with her husband, Kevin. Together, they manage a 1,600-sow farrow-to-finish hog operation, as well as a family feed mill. They also maintain a cow-calf herd and raise corn, soybeans, and hay. Their two children, Rachelle and Conner, are actively involved in production agriculture.
The annual meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Boyer Event Center, with a meal provided by Keith’s Cafe.
