The Edina Medical Services (EMS) opened its doors last June providing primary healthcare services for residents in and around the Knox County, Missouri, area. The clinic is a partnership between Blessing Health System in Quincy, IL, and Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.
Recently, the clinic received a piece of equipment and technology to expand diagnostic services at the clinic, thanks to the Lewis County Rural Electric Cooperative, in partnership with an economic development matching grant offered by the Associated Electric Cooperative. An EKG machine was delivered to the Edina Medical Services this spring and become operational in April thanks to the generosity and partnership of the electric coops. Edina Medical Services is served by the Lewis County Electric Cooperative.
Travis Mathes, Manager of Member Services/Government Relations, Lewis County Electric Cooperative, drove the project. He said, “This EKG machine, as well as the Edina Clinic are an asset to residents of Northeast Missouri. Commitment to community is one of the core principles and there is no better commitment than assisting to bring quality healthcare to the communities we serve.”
Tabitha Rohr, FNP, lead clinician at EMS is so thankful for the donation of equipment. She said, “This new EKG machine will provide early detection of abnormal heart rhythms. A quality EKG tracing is the standard of care for anyone presenting at the clinic with a complaint of chest pain, upper back pain or indigestion pain.” An electrocardiogram is a test that records the electrical signals in your heart. It’s a common and painless test used to quickly detect heart problems and monitor patient’s heart health.
The staff at EMS report the machine is used often. With no hospital in Knox County, if needed, clinic patients can be immediately air-lifted from the nearby Knox County School District parking lot to regional tertiary centers for care.
