Large Animal Veterinary Student Loan Program applications available for MU students through Sept. 15
The Dr. Merrill Townley Large Animal Veterinary Student Loan Program offers students pursuing degrees in veterinary medicine at the University of Missouri specialized loans and the opportunity to have those loans forgiven after graduation.
The loan program provides up to six students with a $20,000 award each year. Following graduation, the program may forgive up to $20,000 of the loan for each year the individual works primarily with large animals in an area of defined need within Missouri.
In this program, areas of defined need include portions of Missouri where the population of large animals, such as cattle, horses and swine is sufficient to support a veterinarian, areas near the state’s livestock markets, areas where the existing veterinary population is diminishing, and areas where local individuals, organizations and communities have requested large animal services.
Students interested in being part of the program must submit a complete application form, letters of recommendation from faculty and professional references, and an essay outlining how their personal goals align with the mission of the program.
