The Scotland County Ministerial Alliance (SCMA) is making plans for its annual Back to School Supply Fair. The 2020 event will be set up differently than in previous years. Parents and guardians in need of assistance obtaining the necessary school supplies for their student(s) for the upcoming school year are asked to register their student(s) online through Google Forms. A link to the online registration form will be available on the Scotland County R-1 School District Facebook page as well as on the SCMA Facebook page.
After students are registered by the Google Form, their names will be added to a list that will be given to their classroom teachers. All supplies, except for backpacks, will be delivered directly to the school and distributed to the students’ classroom teachers. Backpacks will be distributed at a later time. Please watch the newspaper and Facebook for the details regarding distribution of the backpacks.
By making changes in the registration procedures and by delivering All the supplies directly to the classroom, the process will be simplified in several ways. It allows the teachers to get the supplies put away ahead of the Open House night, parents no longer have to pick up the big bags of supplies, and it eliminates the individual packing and distribution. The packing and labeling process has also been simplified, making it easier for a quick drop off to the school. All supplies will go directly to the classroom teachers to help both the school and the students. Parents and students just need to inform the teacher that they were part of the SCMA School Supply Signup, and the teacher will check their name off the list provided.
SCMA usually kicks off fundraising for their school supply fair at the Scotland County Fair Vespers Service. Due to the cancellation of this years’ Scotland County Fair, the SCMA is asking anyone with a desire to donate to the cause to send monetary donations to SCMA, P.O. Box 264, Memphis, MO 63555. Along with monetary donations, we are encouraging local churches to hold a supply drive during July for these three items only: hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes in a plastic canister, and baby wipe refill packs. SCMA would like to thank you in advance for helping meet the needs of families in our community and to express their appreciation to the school district for assisting them in this outreach program.
Online registration is for those students registered to attend school in the Scotland County School District. Registration will begin the first full week of July and run until August 1, 2020. For more information see the SCR-1 Facebook page, SCMA Facebook page, or contact organizer Marie Ebeling at (660) 342-0917.
