The global pandemic has affected everyone and everything in unimaginable ways. It has challenged restaurants, shuttered businesses, curbed store hours, and canceled sporting events. During these times of uncertainty, knowing the facts is more important than ever and it’s been hard to get away from the ongoing story of the coronavirus. The KMEM team has taken the opportunity to distinguish itself in this crisis by delivering information and entertainment along with companionship and laughter.
In addition to providing vital information about the virus and stores that are open, residents report that on-air personalities make them feel connected, less stressed, and less alone in a time of social distancing. They look forward to the General Store with Mark Denney, General Manager, Coffee Break with Pam “PJ” Withers, sports and Nostalgia Sunday with Donnie Middleton, Donna Craig’s evening show, while Mark McVey, owner and engineer, works his magic behind the scenes.
Aside from specializing in news, timely and sensible information, talk and music, KMEM informs, entertains and reassures listeners in more lifestyle-oriented ways. Although residents are missing the live coverage of county fairs and other long-time summer events, everyone can still listen. The music helps listeners cope, whether it lifts their spirits, give them a laugh, evokes memories or brings families together.
KMEM has been doing a great job of distracting from the sensationalism that has overtaken the news. At thistime full of unknowns and disappointments the news is scary, and the what ifs are troubling. KMEM has teamed up with the Memphis Democrat to create some fun in otherwise sequestered or socially limited times to orchestrate the Singspiration event at 9 p.m. each evening and now they have a new contest to celebrate and reward a favorite business with the “Mind your Own Business” contest.
For anyone interested in earning free on-air commercials for their favorite business, start nominating them right away. The contest is underway and scheduled to run through June 19th. To vote, call, mail or stop by the station, comment on Facebook, or text Jimmye Kraus at 660-216-0111. In these unprecedented times, everyone needs unprecedented ideas to overcome the challenges and this is a fun way to acknowledge great businesses and allow one of them to get a package of fifty 30 second commercials.
Join in for Singspiration at 9 p.m. on your free evenings to share a positive sing-along break with your neighbors. Beam your flashlights, turn up your radios and enjoy the moment. Stay tuned for the newest guest hosts for Singspiration and don’t forget to vote for your favorite business!
