Lori Fulk was recently elected Chairman of the Board of the Scotland County Hospital when the board held their annual reorganization meeting. Fulk, a retired public school music teacher, first joined the Board of Directors in April 2016. She replaced Barb Blomme who did not run for another term of office. Fulk represents District #2 which is the East and West Jefferson ward of the District.

 Fulk said, “I come from a family of four siblings, three of whom are all in the medical field in
some capacity. Even my father served in WWII in the medical corps while in the Navy. I always appreciated and respected the professions my siblings had chosen but knew it simply wasn’t my calling. When the board position opened, I had retired from my job as an educator in 2011 after 31 years as a music instructor at SCR-1 and had the time to commit to helping in this way.”

Fulk knows how much the community needs a hospital. She is fully aware of the trends that make it much more difficult for a small rural hospital to keep the doors open. After her husband was seriously injured in an automobile accident several years ago, she said it was even more important to them to have a hospital and physical therapy services close to home. She said, “When I thought about filing for the board, I knew the hospital often had problems getting people to file and make that six year commitment to serve on the board. The more I thought about it, I knew if there was anything I could do to help our hospital, I was willing to try.”

 She believes the hospital is essential to the community in so many ways and wants be a part of making sure the essential and various services will continue to be provided to residents. Additionally, she believes the recent Management Agreement with Blessing Corporate Services, Quincy, IL, will only strengthen the quality and quantity of health care services to the residents of the area.

 Lori Fulk and her husband Joe live outside of Memphis and have two grown sons. She
works as a part-time church office administrator for the Memphis United Methodist Church. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, music, reading, traveling, time at the Lake of the Ozarks and swimming.
