Samuel M. Peterson, 80, of Gorin died Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his home.
He was born the son of Fred M. and Edna Lee (Price) Peterson on April 30, 1940 in Gorin. He spent his life working on the farm, be it on his parents’ or working on other farms.
Sam married Dorothy Boyd and they had five children: Debra, Allen, Dennis, Arveta, and Carroll Dean. He then married Nancy Young and they had a son, James Michael.
He enjoyed people. Sam never knew a stranger. He liked to take walks and fed every stray cat and dog he came across. Sam was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis Samuel Peterson; sisters Sharon Kay Peterson and Emma Lee Huling; and a brother, Randy Peterson.
He is survived by his children: Debra (Paul) Briggs of Arbela, Allen (Melody) Peterson of Gorin, Arveta Peterson of La Plata, Carroll Dean Peterson and special friend, Sarah Lewis, of Wayland, and James Michael Peterson of Kirksville; sisters, Helen Bissell of Pulaski, IA and Beverly Givens of Memphis; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and the stray cats and dogs he fed and looked after.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 15, 2020 at the Gorin Baptist Church with Mike Wilson, pastor of the Gorin Baptist Church, officiating. Jackie Doubet performed “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” and “Farther Along” and also led the congregation in a hymn. His grandchildren served as pallbearers. Burial was in the Gorin Cemetery.
