Lon Andrew “Lonnie” Erwin, age 69, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 9, 2020 at his home in Bible Grove.
Lonnie was born on November 25, 1950 in Kirksville, MO to Clarence Carson and Carey Idell Erwin. On July 1, 1988 in Kirksville, MO, Lonnie was united in marriage to Saralyn Russell and to this union two children were born.
Lonnie attended grade school in Novelty, MO and Downing, MO and graduated from Wyaconda High School. He lived most of his adult life in the Bible Grove community where he was engaged in farming. He was very well known throughout the Tri-States area for his beautiful singing voice as well as his guitar & saxophone playing and many years of making people laugh at different music shows with his “Lonzo” comedy routine. He was a member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #414.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents Carson and Idell Erwin; his in-laws; grandparents; a brother-in–law, Vic Frederick; sister-in-law, Candy Russell; and several aunts and uncles.
Lon is survived by his wife of 32 years, Saralyn; a daughter, Jessica Halle’ and husband Timothy of Dixon, MO; a son, Ryan Erwin and wife Shelbie of Brashear, MO; a brother, Al Erwin and wife Linda of Greentop, MO; and two sisters, Rebecca Wilson and husband Tom of Letts, IA and Reta Langston and husband Doug of Palmyra, MO; two grandsons, Eli Willison and Emerik Halle’ of Dixon, MO and two granddaughters, Charlie and Mackenzie Erwin of Brashear, MO; two sisters-in-law Carla (David) Pulliam of Greentop, MO and Leisa (Greg) Walter of Kirksville, MO; two brothers-in-laws; Jim (Karin) Russell of New Franklin, MO and Jim (Nancy) Miller of Waukee, IA and numerous other family and friends survive as well as his faithful four-legged companions, Hooch, Benny, Duke and Pete.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the family for their discretion in care of Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.
There was a Masonic service at Payne’s at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, May 12, 2020, in conjunction with the visitation under the supervision of the Greensburg Lodge #414.
Funeral services were held Wednesday May 13, 2020 at the Payne Funeral Chapel with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Interment followed in the Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery at Bible Grove. Pallbearers were T. J. Halle, Mike Erwin, Clayton Miller, Chad Davis, Jeff Davis, Trenton Tallman Logan Bogatzke, Josiah Mishler.
