Merlene White, age 75, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 8:58 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on November 13, 1944 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Merle and Maxine (Hank) Partington. She attended schools in Monmouth and was a graduate of Monmouth High School. Merlene was previously married to Larry White.
Merlene was a bookkeeper with Lovdahl Brothers in Monmouth, worked at Mercantile Bank and Scotland County Nursing Home in Memphis, Missouri, and was also the bookkeeper for Child Services at the Warren County Courthouse in Monmouth. She also worked at Tom & Linda’s Grocery, the Rivoli Theater, and Bergners. Merlene loved traveling, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Bahamas were some of her favorite destinations. Most of all, “Mosby,” as she was affectionately known, loved spending time with her family and friends.
Merlene is survived by one daughter, Toni White of Voorhees, New Jersey, one son, Alan (Liz) White of Corpus Christi, Texas, and three sisters; Edie (Kenny) Moore of Monmouth, Illinois, Nancy (Dale) Hart of Monmouth, Illinois, and Doris Talbot of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers-in-law, Leland (Whitey) Talbot and Donald Alexander.
Due to restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic, a private graveside service will be held at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth, Illinois. A memorial is being established for Western Illinois Animal Rescue in Monmouth and may be left at the funeral home.
