In 1884 King Humbert of Italy was awakened one midnight to be informed that an epidemic of cholera had broken out in Naples. He was scheduled to be in Monza the next day for a huge reception. He sent an immediate message to his hosts, “Banquet at Monza; cholera at Naples; I’m going to Naples. If you don’t see me again, good-bye.”
When the King descends his throne to risk his life, one can see the epitome of humility. That’s…. what Jesus did. He stepped from eternal glory to risk ministering to us for we had been stricken with the plague of sin. While it is true that in most kingdoms the people sacrifice their lives to save the king, it is an overwhelming wonder that in God’s Kingdom the King sacrifices His life for we commoners.
Don’t offer disrespectful shrugs of indifference toward Jesus’ majestic sacrifice. Instead, offer your greatest thanksgiving day by beautiful day!
When Jesus entered the plague of mankind… we were healed for eternal glory.
