With a level of confidence that had been missing during a seven-game losing streak, Scotland County put together one of its best showings of the 2019-20 season on Saturday in the North Shelby Tournament.
The Tigers came out of the gates aggressively on offense, pouring in 26 points in the first quarter en route to a 85-35 win. Xavier Lucas had a big first quarter, attacking the rim, scoring eight points on drives to the basket. Kabe Hamlin also had a strong start, scoring six points in the paint.
The points kept flowing for Scotland County as the Tigers outscored Highland 25-5 to lead 51-17 at the intermission.
All eight Tigers got into the score book on Saturday, including five players in double digits. The balanced scoring attack continued in the third period as SCR-I outscored Highland 21-7 before closing out the 85-36 win with a running clock in the final period.
Lucas finished with 18 points to lead Scotland County in scoring. Alex Long added 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had five steals in a well-round game. Corbyn Spurgeon contributed 14 points while Carson Harrison added 11 and Hamlin finished with 10.
Scotland County improved to 3-10 on the season with the victory.
