School Board to Host Public Forums to Discuss Four-Day School Week

The Scotland County R-I Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, January 9, 2020.  President, Christy Aylward, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with seven members present.

The board voted 7-0 to approve the following items on the consent agenda:

December 11, 2019 Minutes

Approve MSBA Policy Maintenance Agreement

Updated Sub List

Update District Health Services and District Testing Procedural Evaluation Plan

Approve Extended Holiday

Financial Update

The board was presented with the monthly financial update. 

“We are now halfway through the fiscal year.  Year-to-date revenues are $2,193,413.02 and expenditures are $3,457,641.42,” said Superintendent Ryan Bergeson. ” The year-to-date deficit is $1,264,228.40. The deficit will correct itself with the receipt of local taxes received in January.”

Four Day School Week

Dr. Jon Turner, Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Missouri State University, attended the board meeting to discuss his findings through his research and experience working with districts across the State of Missouri. 

Dr. Turner has conducted a vast amount of research on the four-day school week and delivered data and statistics on this topic.  In addition, Dr. Turner answered many questions from members of the community that were in attendance at the meeting.  

In an effort to inform the public and gain feedback from our patrons, the school board set the following dates and times for an open forum.  The Community Forum regarding the 4-Day School Week will be January 29, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. in the Hospital Conference Room and January 29, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Library.  All members of the community are welcome to attend.    

Tiger Plaza

President Aylward appointed a committee to begin planning for the Tiger Plaza.  Committee members include Jamie Triplett and George Koontz.  

The deadline to purchase your brick and/or tiles for the Tiger Plaza will be Thursday, April 9.  

Salary Committee

President Aylward appointed a salary committee of Christy Aylward, Jamie Triplett, and Rhonda McBee for the purposes of working on the salary schedule for the 2020-2021 school year.

February Meeting

The next regular board meeting will be Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Library.

Executive Session 

In closed session the following items were approved:

Hire Kristie Maxwell as custodian 7-0

Superintendent Bergeson’s Evaluation 7-0

Extend Superintendent Bergeson’s contract through 2022-2023 7-0
