Virginia Madelene (Winn) Gray, 86 of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Lancaster, Missouri passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri.
The daughter of Silas Lee Oren and Jewell Alberta (Anders) Winn, she was born on August 11, 1928 in Schuyler County, Missouri. On September 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lowell Lee Gray and to this union seven children were born, Hazel, Ernest Lowell, Helen, Mike, Pat, Connie and Carla.
Survivors include her children, Helen Lewis and husband, Jeff of Centralia, Missouri, Mike Gray and wife, Donna of Lancaster, Missouri, Pat Gray and wife, Bobbi Jo of Lancaster, Missouri, Connie Kethe and husband, John of Lancaster, Missouri and Carla Tallman and husband, Steve of Lancaster, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Darrell Schmitter of Bates City, Missouri; two brothers, Eugene Winn and wife, Barbara of Hallsville, Missouri and Lonnie Winn and wife, Sharon of Boonville, Missouri; a sister, Marjorie York McFarland of Kirksville, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Druzella Winn of Memphis, Missouri and Barbara Winn of Jefferson City, Missouri; an uncle, Oscar (Junior) Anders and wife, Laurene of Colorado; nieces and nephews; other family members and a host of friends.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell Lee on November 22, 1984; one son, Ernest Lowell in infancy; one daughter, Hazel Schmitter; two granddaughters, Regina Renae Schmitter and Lacy Ann Tallman; a sister, Nadine Chancellor and husband, Lee; two brothers, Albert Lee Winn and Charles Winn; and a brother-in-law, Sam McFarland.
Virginia and Lowell farmed in Schuyler county all of their married life. After Lowell’s death, Virginia moved in to Lancaster and continued working for Schuyler R-I School system in the cafeteria department for approximately 25 years.
Virginia always had time for her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was respected by all and will be remembered and missed by many that dearly loved her.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Special CD selections of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Some Glad Morning” were performed. Pallbearers were her grandsons, which include Clint Schmitter, Jesse Gray, Josh Lewis, Trevor Tallman, Cody Gray, Tyler Tallman and Troy Tallman. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters that include Cindy Schmitter, Jamie Kethe, Jenna Williams, Sara Daniels, Carrie Oberweather, Samantha Kethe and Julie Lewis.
Burial was in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri.
