The Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post #4958 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) recently hosted a special recognition event to honor local veterans who have celebrated their 85th birthday and beyond.
The Veteran’s Recognition Ceremony was held on February 21st at the VFW post in Memphis with more than 150 community members in attendance, including the VFW Missouri District 17 Commander, Mr. James Epperson, who described the community support as phenomenal.
“Special thanks go out to these veterans and their families, to Countryside Flowers, James Epperson, Jason Middleton, Stanley Prather, KMEM Radio, Memphis Democrat and to all the ‘behind the scenes’ folks who made this event a huge success,” said post member Dale Bienusa.
Veteran Award Recipients that evening included James Hall, Charles Adams, Wesley Knupp, Dwight De Rosear, James Garnett. Back Row: Harlo Donelson, Theodore Peterson, Keith Chance, Sam Johnson for Richard Johnson, Harold Prather, Irley Ruth, and Bobby Trueblood. Not present were Robert Koch, Jodey Lancaster and Clifford Snider. The late: James Clair’s, Thomas Priebe’s, and Bob Rockhold’s awards were accepted by family members and staff.
