Fifty years ago on March 8, 1968, Tom and Patricia (Hill) Fender came together in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Kirksville, MO

To this union, four children were born Timothy Fender (Charlotte), Christopher Fender (Karen), Melanie Fender (Ali El-Fenaish), and Jennifer Mallett (Curtis) They have eight grandchildren, Dawndee Reineke (Brandon), Tyler Fender, Jack Fender, Kathleen Fender, Henry Fender, Abe El-Fenaish, Mason Mallett, and Lanie Mallett, as well as two great-grandchildren, Zech and Kaleb Reineke.

Early in their marriage, Tom had worked for. several years at the Ordinance Plant in Burlington, Iowa and then retired from there to operate the family farm. While doing this, he also drove a school bus for the Scotland County School District for 22 years, having been recognized by the children as one of their favorite bus drivers.

Our father has been a wonderful role model for all of us children as well as anyone who has had the pleasure of interacting with him

Pat has been a homemaker for several years, and then worked at the Scotland County Extension Office, followed by her devoted work at the Scotland County Hospital for 25 years. In addition, she is a wonderful mother whom we have emulated as a fine example of raising children

Throughout their 50 years of marriage, they have been involved in numerous civic activities in our community. This includes volunteering their time to the 4-H clubs, local FFA chapter, coaching sports, and various church activities. Tom is a devoted member of the Memphis Masonic Lodge as well as the Scotland County Rural Fire Board, and has been for many years. Patricia is currently involved in the Rutledge Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and is a volunteer at the Gift Shop at the Scotland County Hospital. Since retirement, Tom and Patricia have enjoyed numerous recreational activities such as traveling together, gardening, and spending time with their children and grandchildren as well as their many friends in the community.

Tom and Patricia demonstrate what eternal love is, specifically a husband and wife who really trust each other and consider the other to really be “the one and only”. They certainly are role models for the benefits of a happy marriage through unconditional love for one person throughout their 50 years of marriage. They really are a team facing life’s challenges and demonstrate that two are better than one.1 Tom and Patricia are shining examples of commitment, caring, and unselfish devotion toward one another in a marriage Your children, as well as your friends, wish you a Happy 50th Anniversary! May your love be an example for all of us to emulate as a golden beacon that we could aspire to become.
