What started as an investigation into a rash of vehicle break-ins has turned into a felony stolen vehicle case against a pair of Wisconsin teenagers after several tips from the public aided the Memphis Police Department in recovering a stolen vehicle in Memphis.

Matthew L. Walters, 17, and Dylan J. Hohlstein, 19, were taken into custody on February 19th at approximately 6 p.m. at #16 Ridge Road Trailer Park. They both have been charged with the class C felony of receiving stolen property.

A silver 2009 Chevy HHR was recovered at the property. It had been reported stolen out of Wisconsin.

Earlier that morning, the MPD began investigating a series of complaints regarding vehicles being broken into on East Madison and Monroe streets, with contents, including large amounts of change, being taken.

Later in the day one of the investigators was contacted with a tip that two young men in a silver vehicle with Wisconsin plates have been involved in a possible shoplifting incident at Gas & More that morning. Previously they had attempted to exchange a large amount of change.

The vehicle was later spotted on the city square, and follow up investigation of an interaction at a store produced a name of one the suspects.

During the continuing investigation, officers followed up several leads and made it known they were searching for the vehicle.

A tip from the public helped locate the vehicle at the trailer park, and subsequent review of the registration information determined it was stolen.

Both suspects are being held at the Scotland County Jail on $25,000 cash only bond.
