Cold, windy conditions could not cool down Scotland County on Wednesday night as the Tigers remained perfect in Tri-Rivers Conference play with a 8-1 win over Schuyler County.
SCR-I struck early, getting to starter Christian Henderson in the bottom of the first inning for four runs with a big two-out rally. Cordie Kigar started the offense with a double. After an intentional walk to Austin Thrasher, Tyler Buford made the Rams pay with a two-run double. Chris Jackson followed with a base hit before Landyn Swearingen crushed a two-run double.
Schuyler County got on the board in the top of the fourth. Henderson laced a one-out double to centerfield. He advanced on passed ball and came in to score on a ground out to cut the lead to 4-1.
SCR-I got the run right back in the bottom of the frame. Kigar again started the two-out rally with a base hit. After Thrasher was hit by a pitch, T. Buford delivered an RBI single to make the score 5-1.
The Tigers tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth when Marcus Jenkins doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Blessing.
Two more tallies crossed the plate in the sixth inning. Kigar and Thrasher again set the plate with base hits. An error and a fielder’s choice allowed both runs to cross the plate to make the final margin 8-1.
Thrasher kept the Rams offense in check all night. He allowed the one unearned run on just one hit and four walks while striking out 14 to help SCR-I improve to 9-3 on the year and 3-0 in the TRC.
Kigar was 4-4 at the plate while T. Buford went 3-4 with three RBIs. Swearingen, Jenkins and Jackson each had a pair of hits in the strong offensive performance for the Tigers.
