Dear Editor,

I recently ran for election to the Scotland County Community School District Board of Education.  I was defeated in the election, but was absolutely honored by the number of votes I received as a candidate.  In the process of running, I began attending the Board Meetings to become familiarized with concerning items to the SCR-1 District.

The community participation towards the educational system in Memphis is inspiring.  I have worked with five separate school systems varying in size, with each administration/board, and have not seen the support and combined efforts that I have experienced here in Scotland County. This community has heart!

This SCR-1 Administration Team is outstanding.  Superintendent Ryan Bergeson, Principal Kenya Fuemmeler, and Principal Nathan Pippert have all demonstrated leadership skills and a vision for positive outcomes for all students at SCR-1. Michella Hull and Teresa Creek both keep the group agenda and reporting together excellently.  I have witnessed administration teams get sidetracked with regulations and unclear expectations. Our students will benefit with these leaders pulling for them!

The SCR-1 School Board is well balanced and incredibly knowledgeable. As I listened in the meetings and analyzed the challenges ahead, I was able to recognize the many positive perspectives and attributes of each member.   So thank you to George Koontz, Sam Berkowitz, Jamie Triplett, Christy Aylward, Dr. Randy Tobler, Trinity Davis, and Gary Miller for taking on these future challenges. I am appreciative of your time and commitment to our community youth.

This community is second to none.  Thank a school board member or community volunteer today!  It’s the combined spirit and common goals which make that happen.

Most Sincerely,

Joy Alexander
